Bushy Park
Accommodation
Ernies Room
Ernie Pulger was employed as a chauffeur and
handyman by the original owner of Bushy Park, Mr Frank Moore, in 1927,
at around the time that Frank purchased a new Stutz car. His employment
continued until Frank Moore died in 1962, after which he remained
employed by the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Association until his
retirement in 1965 after which he left Bushy Park. Years later he died
aged in his mid eighties and his ashes are buried alongside the Kauri
Track at Bushy Park. During
all of the years of his employment, Ernie Pulger lived in a single room
in the stables beside the garage. This room remains has had few changes
from it's early days and is a reminder of how past generations of
employees lived. It
now has two single beds.

Ernie Left His Mark
On the wall of the garage are pencilled notes relating to the mileages
of various cars over the years. In this photo it is possible to read
the date 1935 and the models of the vehicles, including the
Stutz, which was not sold until 1960. Ask at the homestead if you wish
to have access to this area. |
